13. Intention
Yesterday, as I was off to teach, I pondered the concept of intention. For me, intention is like planting a seed, and then stepping back to watch it grow. It's having a gentle guide, a feeling or direction that gives purpose to my actions. It's not about mapping out anything in advance; rather, it's a nudge, a subtle direction towards something that feels meaningful, and then, letting it go.
When I teach, I often use what I call "intentional improvisation." It's a way of exploring ourselves and our relationships through music. It's about being present and listening deeply. It's about catching and letting go of judgment. Having an intention, however simple, offers an anchor.
Without intention, it's easy to get lost in the moment, but with it, the creative process feels more like a conversation. Not with a goal in mind, but with a sense of purpose. I'm free to explore, yet always have a place to come back to, a subtle compass.
So, next time you dive into something creative, or even just when you have your first coffee in the morning, maybe ask yourself: What's my intention today? And see if it changes your experience.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for being you and being here. I appreciate it.
Warmly,
Maria
